Sometimes we tell the story to everyone but God. This prayer is for the moment you bring all of it to Him and ask for help to leave it there.
God, I have talked to everybody about this except You.
I've told the story, replayed the details, explained why I was hurt, and looked for people to understand where I was coming from. But agreement is not the same as healing, and I need healing.
So I'm bringing it to You now. All of it. What happened. What they did. How it made me feel. How long I've been carrying it. Even the parts I don't like admitting about myself.
You already know. You know the anger that's still there, and the conversations I keep replaying. You know when I'm telling the story to process it and when I'm telling it because I'm still stuck in it.
Forgive me for taking my pain everywhere before I brought it to You. Forgive me for rehearsing it so many times that I started making a home in it, and for the times I wanted people to feel sorry for me more than I wanted to be free.
I don't want resentment living in me. Teach me when I need to talk about it and when I need to be quiet and give it to You. Teach me the difference between processing my pain and feeding it. Protect me from people who keep me angry and call it support, and give me wisdom about who gets access to me while I'm healing.
Help me stop feeling like I have to keep explaining what happened for it to matter. You saw it. You know the truth, and that has to be enough.
What happened hurt me, but I don't want it shaping who I become. Help me forgive what I need to forgive, accept what I can't change, and set the boundaries I need to set. And help me stop picking back up what I already gave to You.
I want my children and the people who love me to see a woman who knows where to take her pain. Not a woman who never gets hurt, but a woman who knows what to do with the hurt.
I don't need everybody to understand. I don't need to keep proving I had a reason to be hurt. I need peace. I need strength. I need You.
So here it is, God. I'm giving it to You. Not because it didn't matter or didn't hurt, but because I'm tired of carrying something that already happened. Help me leave it here this time.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
Psalm 62:8 (NIV)
"Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge."
A Gentle Reminder
You don't have to keep explaining what happened for it to matter.
God saw it.
